Scouting Plane Squadron 1 (VS-1)

17 June 1922  -  Formally designated Scout Squadron 2.  Standard operating allowance 18 twin engine seaplanes for scouting, bombing, and screen lay duty in conjunction with fleet exercises. 

Attached to USS Wright; base temporarily at N.A.S. Hampton Roads when directed by Commander Scouting Fleet, alternating with VT-1 Squadron on USS Wright. 

This squadron will begin operations in fiscal year 1923 with two divisions (12 planes); the remaining division will be organized as soon thereafter as personnel becomes available.  As soon as the radio experiments being carried on by N.C. 9 are completed, the personnel used with that plane will be transferred to Scouting Squadron 1.

  • Division 1 - Section 1; Section 2; Section 3
  • Division 2 - Section 4; Section 5; Section 6
  • Division 3 - Section 7; Section 8; Section 9 (Inoperative)
  • Section 1 - 1S1, 1S2.  
  • Section 2 - 1S3, 1S4. 
  • Section 3 - 1S5, 1S6.
  • Section 4 - 1S7, 1S8. 
  • Section 5 - 1S9, 1S10. 
  • Section 6 - 1S11, 1S12.
  • Section 7 - 1S13, 1S14. 
  • Section 8 - 1S15, 1S16. 
  • Section 9 - 1S17, 1S18.
  • Replacement planes:  Nos. 1S19, 1S20, etc.

25 June 1923 - This squadron will operate in fiscal year 1924 with two divisions (12 airplanes); the remaining division may be organized if personnel become available.
