SBU VS-3B dive bomber of USS Lexington's "Indian Chiefs" Scouting squadron.
The squadron was renumbered from VS-3B to VS-2 in the great fleet reorganization
of 1937, but they kept their yellow tails and stayed aboard the

Indeterminate stresses applied to fuselage. 10-17-41 Pensacola Fuselage tubing to front control stick bearing bent; both spars of left lower wing bent & aileron bent & torn; spar & wing tip of upper wing bent; both propeller blades bent, etc. 10-17-41 Pensacola Fuselage tubing to front control stick bearing bent at #2-1/2 station. etc. Strike plane.

Fuel and oil lines and rubber hose connections damaged by fire. 11-24-41 VAF Strike (5 Dec) =================================================== Vought SBU dive bomber of USS Saratoga's "Pointer Dogs" Scouting squadron. The squadron was renumbered from VS-2B to VS-3 in the great fleet reorganization of 1937, but they kept their white tails and stayed aboard the Saratoga. Right after the redesignation they traded in their SBUs for Curtiss SBC-3s.
