Exciting discovery of a collection of over 350 original photographs, many unseen before, of Naval aircraft, plane crash sites, ships of the fleet, Admiral Byrd Antarctic Expidition II and many other subjects, all taken in the 1930's

17 June 1922 - Formerly designated Spotting Squadron 4. Standard operating allowance 18 three seat spotting planes for air spotting and reconnaissance duty with battleships. (Use DH4B's until new type planes are supplied.)

The personnel of this squadron attached to USS Aroostook until USS Aroostook is relieved, then USS Langley; but on account of insufficient space aboard ship this squadron will base temporarily on N.A.S. San Diego, or elsewhere on shore as directed by Commander Battle Fleet.

When battleships are equipped to receive planes, the sections of this squadron will be attached to and quartered on board battleships as assigned by commander Battle Fleet; remainder of squadron will carry on the development of the use of small single seat observation planes with destroyers; for this purpose two experimental type planes, additional to the regular operating allowance, will be supplied early in the fiscal year.
