Observation Squadron 6 (VO-6)25 June 1923 - Standard operating allowance, 12 single-engine, three-place spotting airplanes, normally assigned as follows: 6, one on each of six battleships, Scouting Fleet; 6 reliefs for Division 1 on Carrier No. 3. Duties - spotting, reconnaissance, observation for Battleship Division of Scouting Fleet. To be organized at Naval Air Station, Hampton roads, using personnel assigned to Aircraft Squadrons, Scouting Fleet, and a nucleus of experienced personnel from VO Squadron 1 and 2 of the Aircraft Squadrons, Battle Fleet. Squadron organization and numbering of airplanes as follows:
