Observation Squadron 6 (VO-6)

25 June 1923 - Standard operating allowance, 12 single-engine, three-place spotting airplanes, normally assigned as follows: 6, one on each of six battleships, Scouting Fleet; 6 reliefs for Division 1 on Carrier No. 3.  Duties - spotting, reconnaissance, observation for Battleship Division of Scouting Fleet.  To be organized at Naval Air Station, Hampton roads, using personnel assigned to Aircraft Squadrons, Scouting Fleet, and a nucleus of experienced personnel from VO Squadron 1 and 2 of the Aircraft Squadrons, Battle Fleet.

Squadron organization and numbering of airplanes as follows:

  • Division 1 (On Battleships) - Section 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
  • Division 2 (Relief for Division 1) - Section 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
  • Section 1 - 6/1.
  • Section 2 - 6/2.
  • Section 3 - 6/3.
  • Section 4 - 6/4.
  • Section 5 - 6/5.
  • Section 6 - 6/6
  • Section 7 - 6/7.
  • Section 8 - 6/8.
  • Section 9 - 6/9
  • Section 10 - 6/10.
  • Section 11 - 6/11.
  • Section 12 - 6/12.
